Welcome to Latin American and Latino Studies
Latin American and Latino Studies (LALS) is a multidisciplinary program focused on the appreciation and understanding of the Hispanic experience in the Americas. Specifically, LALS focuses on Latin American and Caribbean countries, Latinos in the United States, and migrations and other transnational processes in the Americas from colonial times to the present.
The program draws on the expertise of scholars at CUA in the fields of anthropology, arts, economics, history, modern languages, medieval studies, music, political science, psychology, sociology, and social work, among others. It also draws on the rich resources of the Oliveira Lima library and University Archives, as well as existing programs in Hispanic Ministry and Hispanic Pastoral Leadership in the School of Theology and Religious Studies, the Latin American Center for Graduate Studies in Music in the Benjamin T. Rome School of Music, and social science research at the Institute for Policy Research & Catholic Studies.
LALS undergraduate students have two academic tracks they can pursue:
- a LALS minor, or
- a LALS Certificate
